Meet the artist

Khursheed Raja

Artist Statement:

Inspired by the boundless beauty and intricate wonders of the natural world, my work seeks to capture and honor its essence. Through close observation of nature’s patterns, textures, and vivid colors, I embark on a creative journey that merges these organic elements into cohesive visual expressions. My goal is to blur the line between art and nature—bringing the viewer into a shared space of awe, reverence, and reflection.

With each piece, I use a rich palette and an intuitive approach to explore new realms of imagination. Unconfined by a single medium or style, I embrace experimentation, allowing my creativity to be guided by the moment and the message. Every brushstroke carries a fragment of my personal journey—echoes of lived experiences, inner growth, and the ever-evolving world around me.

My art is more than a visual experience; it is a call to connect, feel deeply, and act consciously. I hope to awaken emotion, spark storytelling, and inspire a sense of responsibility toward our environment, cultural heritage, and the causes that shape our shared future.

Unity Amidst Diversity

Biography:

Khursheed Raja is an accomplished Indian visual artist and graphic designer based in Muscat, Oman. Her artistic journey began in Mumbai at Talati & Panthaky Associates, where she worked as a visualizer, creating logos, brand collateral, architectural brochures, wall murals, and stained-glass window designs. However, it was her relocation to Oman that sparked a deeper immersion into the world of fine art.

Celebrated for her realism and artistic versatility, Khursheed’s work encompasses evocative portraits, captivating landscapes, powerful equine studies, and imaginative mixed media compositions. Her lifelike renderings of people and horses are especially admired by collectors for their emotional depth and precision.

Blending tradition with innovation, she often incorporates unconventional materials into her mixed media and assemblage art, infusing them with rich textures, symbolism, and narratives inspired by Oman’s cultural heritage. This fusion of classic techniques and contemporary expression defines her distinctive and evolving body of work.

Khursheed also explores abstract art as a deeply personal practice—a medium through which she channels emotion, solace, and introspection. Her abstract pieces are bold, textured, and expressive, inviting viewers into a contemplative space where form and feeling meet.

Beyond her personal studio practice, Khursheed is committed to fostering creativity in others. As an art educator at Kalamandalam Art Center and Harmony Music and Arts Center, she mentors aspiring artists and encourages exploration and self-expression.

Her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions and has garnered national and international recognition. A dedicated philanthropist, Khursheed regularly contributes her art to charitable causes and events such as the Sultan’s School Art Auction, Dar Al Atta, and Art 100x100, using her creativity as a force for good.

She has collaborated on artistic projects with institutions like The Indian Embassy and Ghalya’s Museum, and actively contributes to the art community as a committee member of Rangrez Art Club, where she helps organize exhibitions and manages digital outreach. She also previously served as a core committee member of AWG’s Mona Lisa Art Club, contributing to their exhibitions and workshops.

Khursheed’s artistic excellence has been recognized with prestigious honors, including Third Prize in a painting competition organized by the Korean Embassy in Oman, and selection as a winner in Lalit Kala Akademi’s national poster design competition in India for her impactful works on Save Water and Grow More Trees. Out of 10,124 submissions from 56 countries, only 50 artworks were selected for the Embracing Our Differences exhibition at Sarasota Bayfront Park in Florida. Khursheed’s painting, Weave of Humanity, was honored as one of the chosen pieces.

She continues to take on commissioned projects, with her artworks now part of private collections around the world.
